From Venezuela to Minneapolis The Trump Administration Goes Hard
We at MWR, like most of you, are appalled at the Trump Administrations latest assaults on decency and law - international and domestic. We trust you follow the news sufficiently to know about the military incursion that kidnapped the Venezuelan President and his wife and the recent murder of Renee Good in Minneapolis by ICE agents. We are angry, outraged and fearful for the safety of our neighbors, near and far. These brazen, rapid fire provocations on multiple fronts are intentionally overwhelming, but we cannot allow ourselves to be overwhelmed!
The only thing that will stop the Mad King is a long term, relentless resistance. Be ready to respond to tomorrow’s outrage. You are essential to the resistance!
Calls to Action
Connect with your local groups who are organizing and planning for demonstrations, boycotts, and other resistance work. Find your local Indivisible, MoveOn or Third Act (for those of you over 60) chapters as well as your local Democratic or other political party to keep up with the actions, events and ongoing work that you can contribute to.
Show up! Be ready to move as quickly as the events. Follow the social media feeds of your local organizing groups. Lay in a supply of markers, posterboard and sticks. There will be new outrages in the coming months.
Be unafraid! Unless you are a member of a group that is being explicitly targeted by ICE or Customs and Border Patrol, you are likely to be safe protesting or joining a demonstration. That’s not a guarantee, but our right to gather and protest is nothing if we are afraid to use it! Go with a friend or a group of friends. We stand on the right side of history, and we need to make sure our friends, neighbors, elected officials, and citizens around the world know this. WE are America!
Contact your Representatives and Senators and make sure they know you expect them to act on your behalf to stop Trump from invading foreign nations without Congressional approval and demand that they work to shut down ICE. Our elected representatives follow the will of the people. Don’t let them have any doubt about what you want them to do!
There have been many dark periods in our history. This is yet another one. Only light will drive away the darkness. We are the ones we have been waiting for!
