Show that You Know the Trump Regime is Corrupt

It is vital that we continue to speak out against the lawless, authoritarian actions of the Trump Administration. Join the next No Kings protest against the Trump administration on October 18. Move On, along with many, many other organizations is coordinating this national rally. Click here to find the rally closest to you.

As Trump unleashes his campaign to silence all liberal organizations and to harass and jail effective opponents, we need a broad showing of support for people and principles we believe in.  We cannot let Trump’s bullying silence us. Courage and cowardice are both contagious

In this time of highly publicized violence and constant intimidation, it is natural to worry that it might not be safe to gather in the streets.  We believe risks of protesting are relatively small and the failure to speak out and demonstrate will be disastrous. Trump wants revenge on liberals and the left.

How to participate safely

We take our safety very seriously! MoveOn has assured us that they are coordinating with every local host in an effort to be prepared at each site. This useful resource link, from a different event, provides information on the many things each of us can do to keep ourselves safe.

Our advice based on decades of attending demonstrations:  wear shoes you can move fast in, carry a backpack with water and food, leave valuables at home or secure them in your pockets, know what your exit path is in case there is an emergency, and pay attention to what’s happening around you.  Don’t worry about listening to the speakers, being there is what really matters!

Doesn’t everyone already know?

Steven Pinker’s new book, When Everyone Knows that Everyone Knows, offers the most compelling answer.  When huge numbers of people show their opposition to the current regime, more people who have been silently going along with Trump’s onslaught will see the depth of opposition to this authoritarian outrage and join the opposition.  Remember the Emperor’s New Clothes.  While polls tell us that Trump’s approval ratings have tanked dramatically, most people aren’t paying attention to or getting this news.  But millions and millions of people pouring out to protest across the country will show “closet” opponents to the regime that they are not alone.

When we fight back, we win! Yes, in the current climate of violence and intimidation, showing up requires some courage. The Jimmy Kimmel Show was put back on the air only when people spoke up and viewers cancelled their subscriptions. The plan to occupy Chicago stalled when the governor of Illinois, the mayor of Chicago, and hundreds of local leaders refused.  As James Comey said, “let’s have a trial.”

Courage is contagious! Bring your friends back into the fight. We need the biggest possible turnout NOW!

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD! Work hard to get everyone you know to show up at a rally near them. Send them this edition of MWR. But remember that personal conversations will do more to help people overcome whatever obstacles might be keeping them away.
