Abortion is Key to the 2024 Election
Abortion is going to be on the ballot everywhere this year! The 2024 state and federal elections will be crucial in the battle to secure reproductive rights for all Americans.
First, because Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will do everything they can to protect safe medical access for abortion and all related reproductive issues, they are our last line of defense against the Supreme Court and any future Republican Congress.
Of course, we cannot rely solely on the presidency to secure our rights. We need the strong support of Senators, Congresspeople and state legislators in order to defend reproductive rights at every level of government.
Second, because constitutional protections for abortion will be on the ballot in as many as 17 states, including the key states of Florida, Arizona, Nevada and Montana; voters will have the chance to put strong abortion protections into law. In other states, opponents of reproductive rights are seeking to weaken current protections or ban abortion outright. (Many states are counting petitions or awaiting legislative action which will determine the final number and type of these ballot issues. We will update you on these as they become final.)
Reproductive rights are among the clearest issues in this election. If you live in a state where an abortion measure is on the November ballot, support the campaign organizations in your state with your dollars and time. There is a double payoff: enshrining strong protections (or defeating new restrictions), and bringing prochoice voters to the polls for all the races.
If you don’t live in one of those states, consider donations to the organizations that are organizing in them e.g. Yes on 4 (Florida), Arizona for Abortion Access, Montanans Securing Reproductive Rights, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom.
When in doubt support either Planned Parenthood’s Political Action Fund or Reproductive Freedom for All, formerly NARAL – the National Abortion Rights Action League.
